Libyan Technical Advisor to the President visited MINUBUMWE

On this Thursday 27 January 2022, Libya delegation led by Mrs Hanan Faraj El Kadoshi; the Advisor to the President for technical affairs on a study tour in Rwanda visited the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement for learning about Rwanda’s unity and Reconciliation journey after the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

After welcome remarks by the Executive Director National Unity, Itorero & Citizenship Education Mrs. Anita Kayirangwa Marie Dominique, the delegation was taken through the Rwandan Unity and reconciliation journey. They were explained how Rwandan unity which was initially among Rwandan values during the precolonial period was destroyed by colonialism and how the divide and rule principle of colonialists led to repetitive unrests and killings which culminated into the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. She further explained the requirement to nurture unity through various home grown initiatives like ingando, Itorero, Gacaca, Abunzi…after being destroyed especially during the Genocide against the Tutsi and in the aftermath.

The Libyan delegation was happy to be received by the Ministry’s officials. They said they have learnt a lot especially with regards to resilience, unity and reconciliation which made Rwanda a model at the international level. She Highlighted that Libya wish to work closely with Rwanda because the former went through instability for long time and want to learn from Rwanda how they can stop conflicts.

“I thank you very much for the warm welcome and for the presentation and discussions we had which can help our country to stop internal conflicts as we take Rwanda as our role model” Mrs Hanan said.
