KWIBUKA 28: MINUBUMWE HELD A CONVERSATION WITH DIPLOMATIC CORPS IN RWANDA

On this 11th April 2022, the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement - MINUBUMWE in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation organised a Conversation with Diplomats in Rwanda to reflect on the lessons learnt from the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the contribution of the international community to Rwanda’s post Genocide development journey.

In his key note address, Hon. Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement Dr. BIZIMANA Jean Damascène said that the organisation of the conference is within the context of the United Nations General assembly resolution of December 2003, reviewed on Jan 26, 2018, in which the April 7 was adopted as an international day of reflection on the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994.

He highlighted the role of International Community for not taking a brave decision to prevent or to stop the Genocide. He reiterated the responsibility of the entire international community for not putting an end to the genocide while they had all the required information and the facts on which the world could have reflected on before the genocide starts. He further tackled on the remaining challenges that Rwanda is currently facing which the international community should take part in addressing as: impunity of genocide perpetrators abroad, the issue of genocide denial through social media platforms & other channels and incorrect qualification of Genocide.

In this conference, participants also discussed areas of collaboration towards the fight against persistent impunity of genocide perpetrators, Genocide ideology and denial which hurts the memory and wrong interpretations about genocide.
